I always have lemons on hand and I buy them in a big bag so we never run out. You can put them in tea, pasta, marinades, salad dressings... so many things. But the real reason I love lemons? They look so pretty in a bowl on the counter. Like something right out of a Nancy Meyers kitchen.
Because I buy lemons in bulk, I rarely use all of them before they start to get shriveled and dry out. This is the perfect time to use lemons for cleaning. There are so many things you can do with them, but here are 2 of my favorite ways to clean with lemons.
Clean the Garbage Disposal
I just dump a generous amount of baking soda (another cleaning item I buy in bulk) down the disposal and squeeze several lemons on top. I let it do it's science-project thing until it's done fizzing and bubbling and then pour a pot of boiling water on top. This is a fun job for kids (minus the boiling water of course).
Clean the Microwave
Slice a few lemons in half and put them in a bowl of water. Microwave your magic potion for about 5 minutes. The steam that it produces will loosen up stuck on food inside the microwave and you can easily wipe it down with a wet cloth. Bonus points if you use the boiling water to clean your dish disposal.
I'll do another post soon on cleaning with lemon essential oil, one of my favorite things on this earth. Do you have any good uses for old lemons? Drop a comment below.
